Mission
We strive to provide vital, balanced, and technologically sophisticated information resources that advance the university community's pursuit, development, and sharing of knowledge. We will develop and maintain collections of books, serial publications, audiovisuals, and other print and non-print media, both current and retrospective, that support teaching, research, and community service.
Responsibilities
The Periodicals Department, located on the main floor of the Dean B. Ellis Library, is the division of the library responsible for maintaining subscriptions of magazines and newspapers. Our hours are 7:30am-7:00pm Monday through Thursday and 7:30am-5:00pm on Friday. If assistance is needed at any other time, please ask at the Circulation Desk. Our subscriptions number approximately 1800 and are divided by the year 1980. This means that anything before 1980 is shelved on the 3rd floor of the library in the east wing. Anything after 1980 is on the main floor in the tower. All periodicals are non-circulating, although faculty can check them out for a 24 hour period using their ASU ID.
The department's main responsibility is processing all the current magazines and newspapers for each day and getting them out on the shelves for the public to use. We are also responsible for shelf maintenance of all the journals, as well as, the Front Porch reading area, which consists of the 'popular' journals and the most current newspapers. We also maintain several photocopiers and solicit donations of journals for the library.
