Bindery Information
- The Periodicals Department sends magazines and journals to be bound every month. The binding company we use is Heckman Bindery, Inc. in North Manchester, Indiana. They come through our area on a monthly basis and pick up what we are sending and drop off what we sent the previous month.
Getting It Ready
- When we pull magazines from the shelf to send to the bindery, we always try to leave something current on the shelf. If there is something that is needed for a class assignment, just let us know and we will leave it on the shelf. Otherwise, we recommend starting assignments early because one can never tell when something that is needed will be gone to the bindery.
- Magazines that we do get ready for bindery are kept in the office on shelves before they are boxed up for the bindery (usually two days before they come). If you cannot find the issue you are looking for, please ask us because it may be in the office on these shelves.
- We also put a status on the record in the Online Catalog that says it is "At Bindery" with a due date. One of the technicians or students can tell you if it is already gone to the bindery or not by looking at this due date.
Bound Magazines and Journals Return
- When the magazines come back bound, we have to process them before we put them on the shelf. Therefore, the due date is the date that the item is due back in the library, not necessarily the date it will be on the shelves. This processing usually takes a few days, but anyone is welcome to use them during this time. Just ask for assistance and we will be happy to help you in any way we can.
