The Curriculum Lab serves as a resource for the faculty, students, student teachers, ASU staff and the community.

Materials are collected to support the Education Department curriculum and the children and young adult literature courses.

Because the room is not staffed, we have attempted to make the process of locating the materials you need as easy as possible. If you do need help please ask at the Information/Reference Desk on the 2nd floor.

The Curriculum Collection

This collection consists of pre-school through high school textbooks, teacher resource guides, activity books and kits, including manipulatives. The items are shelved alphabetically by subject matter. Signs are posted on the shelves to help you locate the broad subject area codes.

To locate materials in this collection using the online catalog (ELLIS), a key word search using "+asup +(subject)" will limit the results to this Collection.

Below is an example of a call number for this collection:
L3B.TX (Subject material type)
.L185g (Publisher Series)

The Childrens Collection

The Children's Collection consists of the following collections:
Fiction: Stories for beginners through young adult.
Easy: Picture books with some beginning readers.
Biography: Books about people.
Non-Fiction: Books about true things.
Big Books: Very large format books.
Award Books: Caldecott and Newbery Medal Books.
Reference Books: Includes books about authors and illustrators.
Fiction(F) and Easy (E) books are shelved by the last name of the author. However some authors write under a name which is different from the name the book is cataloged under. For example, Dr. Seuss is shelved under Geisel, which is his real last name. If you have problems locating a book, check the catalog to make sure of the correct call number.
Biographies: (B) are generally shelved under the last name of the person the book is about. Some biographies are cataloged with the non-fiction books.
Non-Fiction books are shelved according to the Dewey Decimal System, which generally groups titles by subject matter.
The Reference Collection is the only collection that cannot be checked out.

To locate materials in this collection using the online catalog (ELLIS) do a key word search using "+asuw +(subject)" which will limit the results to Children's books.
